Sponsored Track Panel: Power of big data to solve real-world health care challenges

Panel to discuss 1) current and future challenges for health care organizations to leverage data to meet quality and financial objectives, 2) how data-driven insights can be achieved using large-scale computing and modern data mining techniques, 3) real-world use cases for Big Data Analytics.

Care Delivery Transformed by Technology: Stanford University

When iconic medical director Arnie Milstein founded Stanford’s Clinical Excellence Research Center, he aimed where the dollars are–in the care of expensive diseases by specialists. The tactic was to set young researchers against the problem. We’re starting this panel with three of those researchers who have built models that are about to be piloted, Sarah is a psychologist working on real-world interventions for patients with obesity. Sunny is a gastroenterologist working on improving colo-rectal screening. And Manali? She’s tackling the easy task of rationalizing, improving and making cancer care cheaper. Before we dive into how Health 2.0 tools are changing the delivery system we’re really looking forward to hear how these three young clinicians are hoping to make radical changes–and what they want from the tech crowd.

Making Health Care Cheaper

Inspired by a keynote we heard some time back from Mark Smith at California Health Care Foundation, and by the work of organizations such as West Wireless Health Institute, we’re going to push the envelope on how Health 2.0 technologies and the companies using them can actually lower the cost of health care. Here we show new models for care delivery, new Health 2.0 technologies that reduce costs, and new technology models that take advantage of lightweight tools and rapid cycles for development and deployment. We also address alternate funding models that are tailored for a lower cost, faster and more iterative approach in health technology innovation.
