George Halvorson, CEO at Kaiser Permanente, Discusses Health Care System Integration

George Halvorson, CEO, Kaiser Permanente

When George became the first non-physician head of Kaiser Permanente, few suspected that the organization could transform itself in the way it has. KP has become a leading example of a heath system using their revolutionary patient electronic health record. Kaiser’s also become a model for health reform and the ACO, a leader in improving health services research and translating that to improved outcomes, and a multibillion dollar contributor to community health programs. Much of this is described in George’s books Health Care Will Not Reform Itself and forthcoming Health Care Should Not Bankrupt America. Here George to tells us what we can expect from Kaiser in a world in which its rivals are catching up. This is a keynote speech opening the panel “Employers, Payers and the Great Health 2.0 Awakening”at the 2011 Health 2.0 conference in San Francisco.
