Patrick Soon-Shiong Excerpt

Patrick Soon-Shiong, Executive Chairman, Abraxis Health

Patrick has had (at least) three groundbreaking careers so far. Graduating medical school in South
Africa during the apartheid era, he later moved to the faculty at UCLA where he performed the world’s
first encapsulated human islet transplant. He next founded two multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical
companies; injectables maker American Pharma Partners (APP) and Abraxis Bioscience which
developed Patrick’s research in nanoparticle delivery into the breast cancer drug Abraxane. Following
the sale of APP to Fresnius, and with the founding of the Health Transformation Institute, board
membership in Dossia and much, much more, Abraxis Health is now trying nothing short of funding
and leading a transformation of health information technology by using it to connect bioscience, care
delivery and finance.
