The Unmentionables panel, moderated by Alex Drane of Eliza, is a place for those companies whose topics simply are not often discussed in health care. This year vulnerability, care-giving, death, sex, stress, and drinking were addressed from companies including Cigna, Altarum Institute, the Pew Research Center, UCSF, Delivering Happiness (Zappos), Hula, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and author Gabrielle Glaser. The theme for this year’s panel was “Health is life. Care, completely. Empathy always.”
Dr. Leslie Schover’s research and clinical work focusing on sexuality and fertility issues for cancer patients and survivors are truly revolutionary. With UT MD Anderson, she aims to create and evaluate internet-based interventions to help men and women overcome cancer-related sexual problems and deal with the effects of cancer treatment – issues which consistently rank high as unmet needs in surveys of cancer patients. Leslie demonstrated her website which provides information to partners about expectations, relationships, and sex post-cancer.
